Lower league Auckland club Manukau City have been handed home advantage in today’s draw for the first round proper of the 19th edition of the ASB Women’s Knockout Cup to be played on May 19 and 20.

The South Auckland side, who beat another relative minnow Manurewa in last weekend’s qualification round, will square off against 2007 Cup winners Western Springs at Walter Massey Park with the visitors potentially vulnerable after a modest start to their Northern Premier League campaign.

Auckland’s other non-Premier League side Ellerslie have also drawn home advantage, against Three Kings United, while the federation’s remaining two fixtures are all top-division clashes with Pukekohe and Eastern Suburbs hosting Lynn Avon United and Fencibles United respectively.

In Christchurch, last season’s runners up Coastal Spirit entertain current Mainland League leaders FC Twenty 11 in the pick of the region’s fixtures while in the capital, a clash between second placed Seatoun and third-placed Waterside Karori headlines the action as eight Central League clubs from Manawatu and Wellington battle for just one semi-final spot.

Football South and Northern Football clubs join the fray in round one with Dunedin Technical hosting Queenstown Rovers and Hibiscus Coast welcoming Kerikeri High School to Stanmore Bay Park. A tilt against defending champions Glenfield Rovers awaits the winner of the Northern fixture.

The ASB Women’s Knockout Cup is played along federation lines until the semi finals in late July with the two best sides meeting in the final on August 26.
